flying south
today as we were prepping for an outdoor shoot I was standing at the gazebo in town surrounded by geese...
somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-100 geese were milling around the lawn. needless to say they make a hell of mess all over the boardwalk that we needed to clean, but i was happy to have a little bit of nature surrounding me after being on the soundstage for so many weeks.
i continued to watch them huddle together and then spread out, feed on the lawn and make all sorts of noise...until the caterers dog came charging along for her afternoon walk and then i had the pleasure of experience something that i had never seen or heard at so close of a distance.
as the little dog came charging in there was a sudden whoosh, followed by the flutter and beating of these 200 wings...the sound was amazing and something that i could not completely describe correctly with just words...it is something that makes you stop and look at this mass of animals so effortlessly floating off the earth.....a sound that is so powerful, but something that you would miss if you were not paying attention.
i stood in awe for that brief moment as the geese all simultaneously lifted their wings to make their way to a warmer climate or maybe just get away from the busybody dog for a little while. wherever their travels may take them, i am glad that i got a chance to be a witness to flight of the geese....
maybe next time i see them flying by i will stop to hear what i can hear.....
